From
a Preacher The church has been an important part of my life since May 11, 1977 when at around 7:00 p.m. on that evening I became a Christian. Since than I have given my life to the Lord Jesus Christ and His church. You may say, "That's easy for you to speak about, you're a minister." But few fail to remember that I wasn't "born" a minister. I lived a life like most of the world did. I drank, I ran around, I mistreated my wife and son, I thought Christianity was stupid and no way you was [sic] going to get me in church -- I lied, I cheated, I swore, I didn't respect those who loved me -- yes, I was a sinner. Then someone took the time to share the love of Jesus with me. There were also people who prayed for me, and people who continued to love me, know [sic] matter how bad or worthless I really was. Then I repented, I decided that the life I was living was getting me nowhere, I was headed straight to hell. I confessed Jesus Christ as my Savior, and was buried with Him in baptism. Since then, I have been doing what I am doing now, trying to live my life the best way I can for Jesus. It hasn't been easy, as anyone will say who trys [sic] to be a Christian in a non-Christian world. There have been times I have failed, times I was truly ashamed in what I've [sic] done as a Christian. There have been times I have felt like giving up, because of worldy pressures and desires of the flesh. There has [sic] been times I may of [sic] not have been the witness I should of [sic] been. Yet through all of this Christ & His church has [sic] been there. I, too, have experienced times when I have felt it a waste of time to go to church, yet I went, and God in His great mercy, forgave me of these thoughts, and continued to bless me. Times when I, too, was offended by an action of a member, or something said to upset me. In these times the Lord has taught me to forgive and to realize, we are all sinners, in need of Jesus. I have found out that only Jesus is perfect, and others, like me, are not. No dear friends, just because your [sic] a minister one is not free from the troubles of life or free from the temptations of life. It has been from the Lord and from His church, where I find my strength to carry on. You may not really konw me, but those who do, have known the change in my life since May 11, 1977. This change is because I gave Jesus my life, and His church has been my strength and that's why I serve today. So what am I getting at? Going to church may not be that important to some, but I don't know where I would be without the Lord and the influence of His church in I [sic] and my families [sic] life. Yes, it may have problems, and the pressures not to go will always be there, but no other place are you going to experience the love Christ has for mankind. Nowhere are you going to hear about the saving grace of God and His plan to save you from your sins. Nowhere are you going to learn about handling the problems of life, and be given strength to help you in those troubled times of life. Nowhere are you going to prepare yourself for eternity! Than coming and experiencing the love of God in His church! Has it been a while since you attended? Why not this Sunday cme and share in our Worship time? I know, by experience, it can change you -- and your families [sic] life. See you there! Virgil |
